  1. Do we have to do anything to begin receiving First2Know announcements from our school?

No. Once your school signs on to the service, you will automatically begin receiving announcements sent to your primary phone number that you provided to the school at the beginning of the school year. If that number changes during the year, please notify your school office.

  2.

  3. For emergency announcements, I want to be contacted at more than one number. How do I add numbers to my emergency contact list?

To add multiple contacts, call the First2Know Family Hotline at 1-866-260-1735 from your primary phone number. Simply follow the telephone prompts to manage your list. For security reasons, you must call from your primary phone number to access your contact list.

  4.

  5. My work phone requires dialing an extension. Should I include my work number on my list?

No. If your work phone number requires an extension to be entered or if a receptionist answers the phone, the school announcement will not reach your extension. Only direct-dialed lines can be reached. To receive messages at work, including a business email address may be your best solution.

  6.

  7. What if no one is at home to receive the school announcement?

If there is no answer, the school announcement will be left on your voicemail or an answering machine.  If you do not have an answering machine or voicemail service, First2Know will redial for up to three attempts.

  9. Will our school continue to use other traditional means to communicate emergency and other urgent school news to parents?

Yes. Schools are encouraged to continue using other traditional means to make announcements, including radio and TV.  First2Know is an extension of these traditional methods that responds to the busy, mobile lifestyle of today's families.

  10. If our home phone number is protected by a privacy manager intercept program (call blocking service) will we receive school announcements?

Yes. Your school's name and phone number will appear on your Caller ID.

  11.

  12. How can I be sure that our phone numbers and email addresses will not be shared with or sold to third parties?

First2Know and its affiliates have a strict privacy policy.  Your personal information is secure and, under no circumstances, will your phone numbers or email addresses be shared with third parties. Please see our Privacy & Security Notice for details.

  13.

  14. I do not want to receive messages from my school. How can I have my number removed?

Contact your school office and ask to be put on the Do Not Call List.

  15.

  16. The messages from the school are getting cut off on our answering machine or voice mail, how do I fix this?

The technology that powers First2Know dials your telephone number and does not play the message until we detect that speech has stopped. So, when we call and you answer the phone and say "Hello" the message will not play until AFTER you say "Hello" and then pause. When you are not home, your welcome message plays on your answering machine before we begin to play the message from the school. After your welcome message plays, we detect speech has stopped and begin playing the school's message so your machine can record it.

If when you recorded your welcome message, you paused for to long, our system will detect that pause in the middle of your welcome message as speed stopped. We will then start playing the school's message even though your welcome message will continue playing. By the time your welcome message ends and your answering machine starts to record the message from the school, most or all of the school message has already been played by our system and is therefore not recorded on your answering machine. If the schools sends a short message, you may see the school phone number on your caller ID, but have no message because it played all the way through before you started to record the message.

The fix for this is easy. Just re-record your welcome message and be sure not to take a long pause in your welcome message while doing so.
